18 Years in the Game
18 Years in the Game
January 2026 • Behind The ScenesI have been here for 18 years, helping Nissan owners day in and day out. Originally hired to take over our parts website in 2007, I learned the ropes and began building this business the best way I knew how: by connecting with the community.
Back then, it was all about forums, car show booths, and grassroots event promotion to gain traction in the enthusiast marketplace. The business looks a lot different today than it did back then, but one thing hasn't changed: I am still here, learning new things every single day.
The Pivot to Video
We have grown quite a bit by establishing ourselves as an informational hub on YouTube. While our Instagram is holding strong at 55k subscribers, YouTube has become our main focus. With the way online content has shifted massively toward video format, it just makes the most sense for us to double down there.
The transition between the end of one year and the start of another is always a bit slow out of the gate for us. We usually spend January trying to catch our breath, but believe me – things are brewing in the background.
Does that make me crazy? Maybe. But focusing on each individual video until it's ready—rather than rushing to meet a deadline—feels like the right move. That doesn’t mean we are ditching "What the Truck Wednesday!?" though. The name is too good to let go.
The State of the Enthusiast Market
I don’t know if it’s Nissan’s pricing increases over the last few years or if the market has just shifted, but the "Old School" scene feels quieter than it used to be. The frenzy around the S-Chassis, Skylines, and Datsun models isn't what it was even in 2022.
We have invested countless hours into sorting out data for those legacy models, so we will never abandon them. However, expanding that market further feels like swimming upstream. Parts aren't being launched; they are being discontinued. The shrinking supply is a wet towel on that format, but we will continue to support what remains.
Embracing the New Lineup
You may have noticed a shift towards the new car lineup in our content. This is where Nissan is focusing, and we have to adapt while straddling the line with the older models. The fun part for me is the discovery process—driving the new models, testing them, and learning their quirks.
I loved learning about the Ariya (RIP). I still stand by the fact that it is one of the best vehicles Nissan ever brought to US soil, and I hope it eventually makes a reemergence. For now, we have its little brother: the 2026 Nissan Leaf.
The third-generation Leaf is nothing like its predecessors. I just shot a quick video on a 2026 Platinum (above) and plan to do a lot more content on these, as it easily ticks most of the boxes the Ariya left behind.
Looking Forward
Nissan’s current lineup is changing for good. They have really turned a corner, ditching the hard plastics of the past for supple soft materials that completely change the vehicle experience. But it doesn’t stop there.
Here’s to starting a fresh blog and a fresh year. I hope you guys stick around and enjoy the ride.
