Fix Nissan Codes P0117 & P0118 | ECT Sensor 22630-ZJ70A
SOLVED: Nissan Codes P0117 & P0118 (ECT Sensor)
Is your Nissan struggling to start, running rich, or showing a fluctuating temperature gauge? The culprit is likely a failing Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor.

The Failure Point: Resistance & Calibration
The Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (22630-ZJ70A) is the primary source of temperature data for your ECU. When it fails, the ECU doesn't know how to mix fuel and air properly, leading it to dump excess fuel as if itβs a freezing cold morning.
*Note on Naming:* While older catalogs sometimes list this as an "Oil Temp Sending Unit", for the vast majority of modern engines (VQ40DE, MR16DDT, MR20DE), its primary function is monitoring coolant.
Technical Notes & Diagnosis
- β Common Symptoms:
Check Engine Light Codes P0117, P0118, or P0125. Hard starting when warm, black smoke from the exhaust, or cooling fans running constantly. - π§ Installation Note:
Direct Plug-and-Play OEM connector ensures a perfect seal. Typically located near the thermostat housing. - π The OEM Fix:
Avoid aftermarket sensors. Generic thermistors often have the wrong resistance curve out of the box, causing "false overheating" signals. Stick to Genuine Nissan.
